The Democratic Party parliamentary group has asked the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, to immediately initiate procedures for the establishment of an Investigative Commission on the use of state resources in the elections of May 11, 2025.
The leader of the Democratic Group, Gazment Bardhi, has addressed Pelesh with an official letter, referring to the Constitutional Court's decision that obliges the Assembly to establish the investigative commission. The Constitutional Court repealed the previous decision of the Assembly that had rejected its establishment.
According to the DP, the decision entered into force in July, but the Assembly has not yet initiated the procedure for its implementation. Bardhi argues that the issue should have been considered within 30 days by the Legislative Council.
"For more than two months you have been violating Article 132 of the Constitution," the letter to Pelesh states.
The opposition accuses the Speaker of the Assembly of unjustified delay and says that the non-implementation of the decision violates the constitutional rights of the parliamentary minority. The Constitutional Court ruled on June 1 that the request for the commission on the use of state administration resources for electoral purposes met the constitutional criteria and that the Assembly was obliged to initiate it. At the end of the letter, the DP demands that Peles take immediate measures to implement the decision.
