The US Embassy announced through a Facebook post the presentation of credentials by Ambassador Eric Wendt to President Bajram Begaj, thus marking the start of his diplomatic mission in Albania.
“Welcome, Ambassador Wendt! The new United States Ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, presented his credentials to President Bajram Begaj. Ambassador Wendt and President Begaj reaffirmed the strong partnership between the United States and Albania and discussed advancing the priorities of President Donald J. Trump’s administration, including defense cooperation, economic growth, and the fight against transnational criminal groups,” the message reads.
Less than 24 hours after arriving in Rinas, on Saturday morning, Wendt arrived at the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, on Saturday morning.
After the ceremony held at the Brigades Palace, Wendt held a one-on-one meeting with President Begaj. The meeting, according to sources, lasted almost an hour, while the topics discussed were not disclosed.
The discussion between Wendt and Begaj comes two days before the National Security Council meeting, called by the President due to the situation created after the decision to place the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, under "house arrest".
