Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with the Albanian community in Staten Island, during his visit to the United States for the UN General Assembly.
In his speech, Rama focused on the relationship with the diaspora, saying that it has changed significantly in recent years. According to him, the connection with Albanians abroad is no longer based only on remittances, but increasingly on investments, economic interests and their return to Albania.
The Prime Minister dedicated an important part of his speech to the Zvërnec tourism project. The Prime Minister once again defended the tourism project, saying that it has the potential to exceed the value of 4 billion euros. According to him, the country must move from mass tourism to one with higher economic value. But while talking about the financial benefits, Rama admitted that the size of the project makes it particularly delicate for the environment. The Prime Minister also chose to respond harshly to some of the project's critics, describing the claims circulating on social networks as the products of "charlatans and manipulators". He has previously opposed protests and accusations against the project, while claiming that part of the debate has been fueled by disinformation.
