Mafia clashes in Sicily / Among rival clans, including Albanians

Orders, intimidation, attacks and stabbings. This happened in Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa in Sicily, Italy, between July and August 2026. The events are attributed to Giovanni Gurrieri's group which is said to have gone beyond the "street limits" by trespassing on the territory of the Di Modica brothers, considered very close to the "u Puorcu" (Pigs) and the Matriali mafia clan.

Albanians are not missing among these clashes.  Italian media mention Luzim Ndreu, whose car was reportedly burned after he refused a meeting. Then Italian Leandro Li Calzi, a bar owner, was injured while trying to stop Ndreu from being beaten.

Everything is said to be related to clashes over drug trafficking areas. The focus is on the Italian Di Modica and Gurrieri families. Another Albanian mentioned is Auglent "Denny" Lalollari, the man who, according to sources, has taken on an increasing role in the Albanian network. He is said to be active between Vittoria, Santa Croce Camerina and the Ragusa coast. His name came up during a trial for one of the Di Modica brothers. There it was said that the group was threatened by the emergence of a new leader named Luzim Ndreu, known as "Giuliu 'u Tistuni" (Stubborn Julius).

"According to sources involved in the investigation, Lalollari and Ndreu were members of the same organization and had a close and respected relationship. Some people in that environment described them as "uncle and nephew", but this expression does not support the existence of a family relationship. It could simply indicate recognition of seniority, authority or position within the network" - quoted the Italian media.

It was Gurrieri who first went to the bar “La Lucciola”, frequented by several men identified as drug traffickers. He approached them, ordered them to stop selling drugs and added that he wanted to meet their boss, demanding an answer as soon as possible. After that visit, the message reached Ndreu, but he did not respond.

According to sources, he did not avoid it out of fear, but simply did not consider it. "In the hierarchy known to Ndreu, Gurrieri's new group had not yet secured a place and had no right to call him. Ndreu stays where he is and leaves Gurrieri outside the door.

Several days passed in silence, and then one of Ndreu's cars caught fire. According to sources involved in the investigation, the fire was started by men identified as members of the Gurrieri group. The flames transformed the failed meeting into an open challenge, sending a clear message: ignoring Gurrieri would no longer be possible, and continuing to deny his recognition as an interlocutor would have a cost.

“Come on Saturday and we’ll talk about this,” they reportedly told Gurrieri. He showed up on the appointed day. Luzim Ndreu was there too. His presence changes the meaning of the meeting. The man who a few days earlier had refused to meet with Gurrieri now stands before him. The silence, the burnt-out car, and the call for Saturday all converge on the same point: the meeting that Tistuni had deemed unnecessary was imposed on him.

The confrontation, which was supposed to be verbal, degenerated into violence. Gurrieri allegedly focused his attack on Ndreu, brutally beating him. Leandro Li Calzi, the owner of “La Lucciola”, did not participate in the fight and did not support any of the contenders. He saw what was happening in his restaurant, intervened to separate the men and tried to save Ndreu from the beating.

At that moment, Gurrieri hit Li Calzi in the head with a beer bottle, injuring him. Here the fight shows that the confrontation has now turned into a war. ©LAPSI.al

Blendi Kajsiu: Prime Minister's misunderstanding on anti-corruption

The fact that no institution of our public administration noticed that millions of euros were invested in phantom incinerators, that AKSHI was controlled by an ordinary criminal, that the directors of the Municipality of Tirana awarded tenders to themselves, or that the police director and the director of SHISH worked for Gysi, shows that we do not have a public administration and a state.
