The change of the Electoral Code and the 100% opening of the lists are at the center of the demands of the anti-government protest in Tirana. Citizens gathered for the 112th consecutive day, continuing their demands for political change. The rally began at Skanderbeg Square, where protesters appeared with banners and messages addressed to the government and the political class.
This time, one of the main demands was related to the electoral system. Protesters demanded that parliamentary elections be held with 100% open lists, so that voters have a direct role in selecting MPs.
"Lists are not property, mandates are not a bargain, open them 100%, let every Albanian vote," read one of the banners. Another message called for national proportional representation, criticizing the current way of selecting candidates. The protest has been ongoing in the capital for more than three months, with demands that have included the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the removal of the government and changes to the political system.
