A large-scale fire engulfed the village of Bestrovë on Tuesday evening, creating an emergency situation in the area. Three fire sources were activated almost simultaneously, while the flames were favored by strong winds, spreading rapidly over the terrain. The fire burned a significant area of vegetation and bushes, while the flames also engulfed olive tree roots, causing significant damage to the affected area.
Several fire engines, three trucks, and Civil Emergency services have arrived to extinguish the fire on the ground. The forces on the ground have worked for several hours to isolate the fires and prevent the spread of flames to other areas. The situation has become even more worrying as two more barns have been threatened by the flames, while the intervention of the firefighters has prevented the fire from spreading to them.
After about five hours, the firefighting forces have managed to bring the fire under control, while work continues to monitor the area and eliminate the possibility of reactivation of the fires. The damage caused to vegetation, bushes and olive trees is considerable. Meanwhile, preliminary data suggests that the fire may have been intentional, while investigations are expected to determine the full causes and circumstances of its outbreak.
