90 cartons of contraband cigarettes were discovered on a bus on the Tirana-Athens route during a check at the Kakavija border crossing. The check was carried out in the early hours of the morning by the Economic Crime structures of the Gjirokastra Police. According to preliminary data, the cigarettes were hidden in closed spaces of the bus, in order to avoid customs control.
Several bags of clothing were also found in the vehicle, for which purchase receipts and customs clearance documents were missing. The police prosecuted the bus driver and another person responsible for the vehicle. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether other people were involved in this case. Security camera footage from Kakavija, the phones of the people under investigation, and the role of the customs officers who were on duty at the time the bus passed will be verified.
