Milan and Juventus have no excuses: they must definitely perform well in the Europa League. A matter of prestige, yes, but also of finances. Reaching the final would guarantee significant economic income for the two clubs, who need to fill important gaps in their balance sheets after missing out on the Champions League. Raising the trophy to the sky would help the balance sheet: in the event of a perfect performance, 45-50 million euros could come.
The second continental club competition has a total fund of 565 million euros, which is divided between the clubs based on victories, passing the rounds and more. Juve and Milan have a minimum guaranteed income, respectively 14.4 and 13.5 million euros: the difference with that of the Champions is extraordinary. The difference for the Old Lady is around 33 million, while for the Rossoneri we are around 25 million.
As you can easily imagine, the results on the field will make the difference: each win is worth 450 thousand euros, significantly more than a draw that guarantees only 150 thousand euros. There are also bonuses linked to the position in the overall ranking of the first phase: finishing in the top eight places guarantees another 600 thousand euros. Double the amount received by the team ranked from ninth to 16th, which is obliged to play the play-offs. Without forgetting the amount determined based on the position in the ranking: from 75 thousand euros for 36th place to 2.7 million euros in case of finishing first.
And yet: the round of 16 allows for 1.75 million, the quarter-finals 2.50 million and 4.2 million for the semi-finals. Reaching the final, on the other hand, brings a full 7 million euros. Winning the cup brings another 6. In short, in the event of a perfect performance, adding the income from tickets (the more matches they play, the more they earn), Juve and Milan could reach the figure of 45-50 million euros. Of course, this is an estimate and figures far from those associated with the Champions League.
