The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has stated that Albania is facing an existential threat, and therefore an international stance against the narco-state is needed. Speaking at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Berisha said that no nation can be more proud of its diaspora than the Albanian nation.
The opposition leader stressed that according to Eurostat, out of every 1,000 Albanians, 466 live in EU countries. According to him, this is a consequence of governance, adding that Albania is the first exporter of cannabis, while Albanian drug cartels are the largest transporters of cocaine in Europe.
"No nation can and should be more proud of its diaspora than the Albanian nation. We owe almost our survival, our freedoms, as well as an extraordinary contribution to our culture to the diaspora. But today, unfortunately, I have to present to you a terrible picture, a devastating effect of emigration in my country.
Justin Gast, in a study conducted in 149 countries, has concluded that immigration can cause a "demographic drain" and have very serious consequences.
In Albania, this has put the nation in the face of a real existential threat. Currently, in the European Union, according to Eurostat, out of every 1,000 Albanians, 466 live in EU countries. Imagine the situation we are in. This is entirely a consequence of the Albanian narco-state, which is the only narco-state in the world, but unfortunately still unknown and undervalued as such by Europe.
"Albania is the leading exporter of cannabis, while Albanian drug cartels are the largest transporters of cocaine in Europe. To conclude, an international stance towards this narco-state is vital to save the nation," Berisha said. /LAPSI.al
