The Democratic Party sent this Tuesday an official request for information to Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj regarding the procedures used for the proposal and decree of the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni.
The request was submitted by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense, Klevis Balliu, who considered the current situation as a serious violation of national security.
Full Statement:
As a result of the alarming situation in which the country finds itself, at a time when national security has been seriously compromised, serious questions are raised about the way in which the country's most important security institutions have been administered.
According to the data and facts that have been made public, important security institutions have been under the influence of Ergys Agas. The State Police, headed by Ilir Proda; AKSHI, whose director was Mirlinda Karçanaj; cyber security structures where the husband of the director Ervina Gjana was Agas's assistant; and SHISH, where accusations have been made public that the head of the intelligence service was in the service of Agas and the gangs that he coordinated in the interest of the government.
If leaders of key national security institutions answer to a person who holds no state function, the fundamental question is: who has the power and authority to decide over these institutions?
Only the Prime Minister has institutional authority over a significant part of this executive chain. For this reason, any attempt to present Edi Rama as being unaware of the activities or relationships of people who have had access to and influence in the country's most important security institutions is insufficient and unreliable.
There is no serious person who can take seriously the claim that Edi Rama knows nothing.
Today, in my capacity as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense, as well as as a member of Parliament with a security clearance, I have sent the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister an official request for information on the criteria and procedures used by Edi Rama for Vlora Hyseni's proposal, as well as on the criteria and procedure followed by the President of the Republic for the approval of this proposal.
In the context of this emergency and due to the importance of this issue for national security, I expect an urgent, complete and transparent response from the relevant institutions.
This is not a personal or partisan issue. It is an issue that is directly related to national security and the functioning of state institutions.
