Prime Minister Edi Rama has once again attacked the media regarding the publication of sensitive materials in the framework of the investigation into the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni. In the joint conference with the President of the European Commission, Rama said that the investigative materials should be subject to the assessment of the court and not become the object of publications to conduct a public trial.
In his speech, Rama also focused on the way in which recent developments in the fight against corruption have been interpreted in Albania, saying that what is seen by some in the country as regression is assessed by the European Union as progress. Rama also reiterated his statement that the Albanian system is developing mechanisms for self-correction and the fight against corruption.
"You have to ask yourself why the European Commission, why the European Union, sees events that are treated locally to strike and spread waves of despair as reasons to consider Albania a very serious partner and a country that has its aspirations linked to the fact of a daily effort in all aspects and in these aspects with evidence of an uncompromising fight against crime and corruption.
You have to ask yourself this question, because what many here see as regression, the European Union sees as progress. It is not just progress, but transformation. We live in an era of transformation like never before. As far as I am concerned, we are more than ever on the right track and, as I said and I am repeating it and I will repeat it whenever I get the chance, until yesterday corruption was the system, today for the first time this country has a system that is gaining self-correcting, self-cleaning, anti-corruption capabilities, which every democratic system has thanks to the separation of powers, where each power does its job.
As for sensitive information, I think it should be left to the court and not to the sporadic reading of investigative materials that are released to fool the public. Therefore, I think it should be left to the court to see if there are things that have violated credibility with partners or national security. The news I have for you is that such a concern about these materials has not come to us so far from any partner. And of course I spoke about the partners who have been left speechless, I said they are those in the security system, not about the allies, but I said about the partners who deal with the service. The issue is unprecedented in the history of the world how it was handled. I expect the prosecutors to do their job, the court to do its job and in the end the result will come out", - said Rama.
