Numerous citizens gathered on Friday evening in "Skënderbeu" Square in Pristina, in a protest organized in opposition to the verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
KLA veterans, family members of the convicted, and citizens from various parts of Kosovo are participating in the protest. This is the second rally held today in Pristina against the decision of the Special Court.
Protesters have expressed their opposition to the sentences given to Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, demanding that the process continue at other levels of the trial.
On September 16, the Special Court in The Hague sentenced Hashim Thaçi to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years in prison. The four former leaders were found guilty of several war crimes-related offenses, while they were acquitted of several charges of crimes against humanity.
The protesters are demanding a review of the decision through appeals procedures and have objected to the way the KLA war was handled by the Special Court. /LAPSI.al
