"We hear and read so many things, but I want to say that there are no good or bad people. There are people who deserve to die and others who have the right to shoot." This is what the partner of Albanian Gjovalin Lazri, the 36-year-old killed on the night between Saturday and Sunday in Baldissero D'Alba, in the Cuneo area in Italy, said.
The woman entrusted the statement to her lawyer, who then published it.
"My son no longer has a father and I am devastated by the pain. The whole truth must come to light, I only ask that justice take its course," she declared.
The Prosecutor's Office has identified Italian Roberto Mollo, the 35-year-old owner of the village house that was attacked by thieves, as a suspect in the death of the Albanian. He is charged with intentional murder.
Initial results of the forensic analysis, which have not yet been confirmed, say: "The victim was struck by a single bullet."
Gjovalin Lazri was 36 years old. After leaving Albania, he moved to the outskirts of the Piedmontese capital with his wife, with whom he had a son. A bartender by profession, Lazri is remembered by neighbors and customers as a quiet person.
"A respectable family, extremely reserved. We don't know much about them, they don't talk much, we see them with the child. But there have never been any problems," neighbors said after the tragedy.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were doing this [theft], it seems strange. I wasn't expecting it," said a bar customer.
Meanwhile, preliminary results, still unconfirmed, from the initial forensic analyses conducted suggest that Gjovalin Lazri was hit by a single bullet. Specialists will present their findings within 60 days. To complete the investigation, which also includes a ballistics consultation, an inspection of the crime scene is considered essential.
Italian media have also published the audio of the phone call the Italian made to the police after the murder. "Good evening, I'm Roberto Mollo. I had thieves in my house, I defended myself... one of them is dead," - were the words of the 35-year-old. Mollo, who works as a truck driver, fired 13 shots at the people who were attempting the robbery.
"I was scared, I'm desperate. They were bringing me around the house. I'm armed, I defended myself. Now there's a person on the ground, I don't know if he's dead. This person was masked, he was outside in the yard. I closed the door, but I got scared and shot," he said.
Italian media reports that Lazri was found near the exit to the apartment's courtyard. He was wearing a hood, gloves and carrying a flashlight. During the search, a screwdriver was also found in his pockets, while he had about 2,000 euros with him.
Investigators are verifying whether the money could be linked to other robberies. According to initial suspicions, the group may have been part of a gang of robbers on the move, who travel to different areas and commit several robberies within the same night. ©LAPSI.al
