
The candidate initially proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement, Justina Shiroka-Pula, has been elected president of the Republic of Kosovo. 81 deputies voted for her, 2 votes were invalid, and 1 was for the other candidate, Eliza Hoxha.
Academician Justina Shiroka Pula has held the position of President of the Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2025.
She is the first woman to lead this institution founded in 1975 and succeeds academic Mehmet Krajë in this position.
Shiroka Pula completed primary and secondary school in Prishtina. He also graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Prishtina in 1976.
Meanwhile, he completed his postgraduate studies in the field of economic development theory and policy in 1984 at the Faculty of Economic Sciences in Zagreb.
She received her doctorate at UP with her doctoral thesis titled: "Demographic investments and economic development of Kosovo".
The new President of the Academy of Sciences worked at the National Bank of Kosovo and in 1978 began her career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics.
According to the biography published on the ASHAK website, Shiroka Pula has also participated in postdoctoral studies at the University of Linz in Aushtrri, at the University of Arizona in the USA, and has completed various professional trainings at various universities around the world.
After the war, she became engaged in civil society, in the field of women's empowerment, gender equality, and business development and entrepreneurship.
From 2008 to 2011, she was Minister of Energy and Mining of Kosovo, and from 2011 to 2014, she was a member of the Assembly of Kosovo. /LAPSI.al
