Although the SP and the DP did not agree on the new territorial division, the socialists' draft is being discussed at the Conference of Mayors, where the draft calendar is also expected to be approved. The opposition says that such an important reform cannot pass without its consensus and demands that it be removed from the draft calendar.
"The Democratic Party is against this calendar that you have presented. You have included the draft law on Territorial Reform for discussion. This is an unacceptable issue for many factors. First, you cannot pass such an important reform without the consensus of the opposition. Also, you conducted a mockery process with the Albanians. You established a committee, while you had the division on the table and you had it ready. Today you bring this issue here, included in the calendar. What you are doing today is also a mockery and violation of the Constitution, since there is currently a public consultation process, while you foresee the discussion of the draft law in committees. Therefore, we are against it", said the head of the DP group, to Gazment Bardhi. After the calendar of the Assembly's works is approved, the draft is reviewed in committees and then the way is opened for voting in the plenary session.
The opposition opposes the majority draft, which envisages reducing the number of municipalities from 61 to 46. The DP demands the withdrawal of the project that aims to merge 15 municipalities and proposes increasing their number to 100.
