At least 27 people have been injured after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Panama, damaging buildings, roads and infrastructure. The tremors were felt across the country, with residents in the capital rushing to evacuate. No casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have recorded more than 80 aftershocks, one of them with a magnitude of over 6. Several roads have collapsed, while the city of Tonosí is reportedly isolated and teams are trying to reach it by air.
Panama City's international airport was temporarily closed and some flights were diverted. A tsunami warning was later canceled. The epicenter was near Pitalosa Arriba, in Herrera province, according to the USGS. The Panama Canal Authority said navigation was continuing normally.
