Two powerful tornadoes have hit Marsala, in western Sicily, leaving dozens injured and causing extensive property damage. The winds overturned vehicles, damaged homes and even hit a school with 273 students. Six children suffered minor injuries, while all were safely evacuated. At least 11 people were taken to hospital. Among them is a 70-year-old man, who is in serious condition with several fractures.
Images from the area show overturned cars, damaged facades and broken windows. At the school, the force of the wind destroyed windows and overturned tables and chairs. Videos released show two whirlpools forming over the sea and moving towards the coast, before hitting the city.
