Donald Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin for the immediate and gradual supply of millions of tons of Russian oil to US and global markets, following a phone call with the Russian president. In a post on the Truth Social platform, the US president described the conversation as "tremendously successful", claiming that the agreement, combined with the control that, as he claims, the US exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, will lead to a rapid and spectacular decrease in oil prices, both for US consumers and internationally.
According to Trump's announcement, Russia has agreed to immediately make more than 300,000 tons of oil available to US and global markets, while an additional 500,000 tons are scheduled to be delivered in November.
He said a new shipment of 1,000,000 tons would follow, without specifying a precise deadline, while Moscow is said to be committed to delivering another 3,000,000 tons in the short term, depending on the state of Russian refineries.
If the quantities outlined by the US president are fully implemented, deliveries will exceed 4.8 million tons of oil in total.
Trump directly linked the deal to efforts to curb energy costs, paying particular attention to the effects of high oil prices on the agricultural sector and transportation.
"Thanks to our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz and this great announcement on Russian energy, oil prices for Americans and indeed the entire world will DOWN, TO RECORD LEVELS, AND FAST!" Trump wrote.
At the same time, he stressed that ensuring lower prices is a key priority of his administration, especially for farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers, who directly depend on the cost of fuel for their activities.
He closed with another categorical statement on Tehran's nuclear program. "Furthermore, it must be understood that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon!" Trump said, reiterating his stance that Washington will not allow the Tehran regime to acquire a nuclear arsenal.
The announcement comes at a time of great pressure on the US fuel market. According to Reuters, US oil prices have increased by about 70% since the start of the war with Iran, reaching $6.28 per gallon. ©LAPSI.al
