The Association of Judges of Albania has rejected Prime Minister Rama's invitation to participate in the consultation roundtable on September 28, 2026, with the aim of determining salaries in the justice system and improving the status of magistrates. Although the Board of Directors appreciates institutional dialogue as a means of finding constitutional solutions, participation in this consultation is impossible given that the issue of salaries is still under review by the Constitutional Court.
"Until a decision is made by the Constitutional Court regarding the lawsuit filed by the magistrates' associations, it is impossible for us to participate in the consultation roundtable on September 28, 2026," the Union's response states.
However, the Union clarifies that the absence from the meeting should not be interpreted as a closure of the institutional dialogue with the government. On the contrary, the judges state that they remain open to communication and dialogue at an appropriate time, after the Constitutional Court has issued its decision. The letter also states that the Union and its members are ready to contribute, within the constitutional and legal competences, to any institutional process that aims at a sustainable solution and in accordance with the constitutional principles of a democratic state.
