Younes Ebnoutalib is one of the new names to enter the radar of Germany. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has attracted attention with his goals, becoming one of the protagonists of the start of the season in the Bundesliga. A surprising rise, especially if compared to what had happened just a few years ago, when the German striker was in Italy and had difficulty finding space even in Serie C.
Today his name is associated with some of the best scorers in the German championship and even Jurgen Klopp has decided to include him in the new cycle of the national team: Ebnoutalib has received his first call-up with Germany after having gone through a much more complicated period, the one experienced in Perugia. The Italian adventure, launched in 2022, should have been an important opportunity for his growth, but away from the field, the young striker faced a situation that he himself has described as extremely difficult.
The years at Perugia and the difficulties: "I was like in prison"
Ebnoutalib arrived at Perugia when he was just 19 years old and the initial idea was to quickly break into the first team, which at the time was playing in Serie B. Expectations were high, but the journey immediately took a different direction than imagined. According to what the player has confessed, an agent whom he himself considered “unreliable” had presented him with a different scenario, but Younes was included in the Primavera team of the Umbrian club and not in the first team.
In the 2022/2023 season, he made 23 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Figures that only tell part of the story, because the greatest difficulties appeared especially in everyday life: for Ebnoutalib, the obstacle was not only to assert himself on the field of play. The young footballer was unable to learn the language, had difficulty forming relationships and felt increasingly isolated. The situation was further complicated by economic and housing conditions.

First training session with Klopp's new Germany
Among those who have noticed his growth is Jurgen Klopp, who has been called up to lead Germany in a phase of national team renewal. Ebnoutalib is one of the new faces of this project. His personal story makes the collection even more special: he was born in Frankfurt, the city of the team he plays for today, but is of Moroccan origin.
His father, also a professional athlete, won the silver medal in taekwondo at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. The opportunity to represent Morocco was concrete and, as the striker himself confessed, he had had contacts with the North African country's federation.
In the end, however, the choice fell on Germany.
"There were negotiations with Morocco. But when Klopp calls you, you can't say no," Younes explained after the training camp. Thus, his journey has passed in a very short time through two almost opposite realities. On the one hand, the period spent in Perugia, characterized by personal difficulties, few opportunities with the first team and a complicated relationship with the environment. On the other hand, Germany, where within a few months came first promotion to the Bundesliga and then a training camp with the national team.
The collection thus represents the high point of a resurgence that began far from the limelight. Ebnoutalib, after passing through the Italian Serie C, has reached Germany: the next step will be to try to convert that collection into an appearance in the Mannschaft shirt.
