The Administrative Appeals Court has drawn lots for the appeal of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj regarding the lawsuit regarding the manner of appointment of Ols Dado. After losing the case in the first instance, the appeal has been sent to the Administrative Appeals Court. According to sources, the case has been assigned to Judge Blerona Hasa for review.
Veliaj has previously stated that the first instance court has not examined the merits of the case and is requesting that the claims regarding the legality of Dada's appointment be examined by the Administrative Court of Appeal. Veliaj also raises arguments regarding the criteria that, according to him, were not met at the time of Dada's appointment in 2008 and is requesting judicial verification of the appointment act. In his response, the mayor also links the issue to the principle of equality before the law and judicial control over the exercise of criminal power. The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was arrested in February last year by the Special Prosecution Office on charges of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets and is being tried under the security measure of "prison arrest" in the Special Court.
