A pileup involving 69 vehicles occurred in South Carolina, USA. There were many injured people, two of whom are said to be in serious condition.
According to local media, one of the injured had to be transported by helicopter to the hospital.
The accident occurred on a bridge connecting Clarendon County and Orangeburg over Lake Marion, when dense fog covered the area and limited drivers' visibility, causing a chain of crashes.
According to the Sandy City Fire Department, 15 trucks and 54 cars were involved in the accident.
Fortunately, there were no casualties from the incident. The fire department had to assist in extricating four people.
"It was crazy, it's one of those things you never think will happen to you," a truck driver told local media, explaining that he saw a car behind them start to smoke and then burst into flames, while in front of him there were people trapped in their vehicles.
As he explained, the presence of the lake directly under the bridge made the situation even more dangerous, although, he noted, "we were particularly lucky that none of the vehicles ended up in the water."
According to local media, authorities had to work for hours at the scene to resolve the traffic problem. /LAPSI.al
