
The Special Prosecution Office has closed the investigations and sent the file against Ervin Mata, suspected of being the leader of a criminal group that trafficked large amounts of cocaine from Latin America to Europe, to the Criminal Court for trial.
After about three years of investigative actions, SPAK has filed charges against Mata for "Drug Trafficking", committed in the form of collaboration, that of a "Structured Criminal Group", as well as "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or structured criminal group".
The investigations were conducted by the head of the Organized Crime Section at SPAK, Vladimir Mara.
Ervin Mata was arrested in April in Brazil, as part of the procedures requested by Albanian authorities. A few days ago, the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court gave the green light for his extradition to Albania.

According to SPAK investigations, the criminal group allegedly led by Ervin Mata trafficked about 250 kilograms of cocaine. The cargo is suspected to have originated from Brazil and was destined for Frankfurt Airport in Germany, at the end of September 2022.
Mata was sentenced in absentia to "prison arrest" in October 2023.
Other members of the group have previously been sentenced in connection with cocaine trafficking, with a total of more than 60 years in prison.
Ervin Mata is known to Albanian justice for the sensational clash with Ervis Martinaj in a bar in the former Blloku area of Tirana, in 2018. During the clash, Fabian Gaxha, the bodyguard of the former gambling boss, was killed. /Ora News
