Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to deliver Albania's address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York today. The general debate of the 81st session takes place from September 22 to 28. Rama has been in the United States for several days, where he is holding a series of meetings as part of the UN High-Level Week. The content of his speech has not yet been made public.
One of the topics that has taken place in his statements during this visit is the decision of the Specialized Chambers against the former leaders of the KLA. During the meeting with the Albanian community in Michigan, Rama declared that Albania will stand by Kosovo and opposed what he described as the “burial alive” of the four former leaders.
In Michigan, the Prime Minister met with representatives of the Albanian diaspora and announced the opening of an Albanian consulate in Detroit. He also spoke about strengthening ties with Albanians abroad and implementing the National Diaspora Strategy 2030. Rama's agenda in the US also includes meetings with political representatives, international organizations and other stakeholders during the proceedings of the General Assembly.
