There are 28,000 more women than men in Albania. Although birth statistics in recent years show a ratio in which boys predominate, at the end of 2025 there were 1,182,000 women and 1,154,000 men.
At the end of 2025, the resident population in Albania was 2,336,000 inhabitants and compared to the end of 2024, the male population decreased by 1.3%, while that of women by 1.0%.
The natural increase in population in 2025 was positive, with 1,063 more births than deaths for women and 84 for men.
Higher male emigration and higher female life expectancy are the main reasons leading to the reversal of the ratios. The dominance of women is also evident in education, with 65% of them having higher education, however, if we look at politics, women only make up a third of the Assembly.
