The head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, requested in today's plenary session the removal of the draft law on the "Status of Magistrates" from the agenda. During his speech in the plenary session, Bardhi said that the issue has been pending for seven years and that three decisions have been issued by the Constitutional Court on it.
"Today this assembly has an important topic such as the status of magistrates. It is about an issue that has been carried over for 7 years. There are three decisions of the Constitutional Court, the one they are taking today is the third decision. In the past two decisions, your majority has violated the decisions of the Constitutional Court. It is a fact that the consultation has not been effective", declared Bardhi. Bardhi also claimed that the heads of the justice institutions have been called for consultation in a very short time. The head of the DP Parliamentary Group criticized the majority for the way this issue has been handled over the years.
"During the time when we were discussing in the parliamentary committees, we received the opinions of the associations of judges and leading institutions of justice. The leaders of these justice bodies were called at a time within 30 minutes to discuss. The Assembly is faced with the responsibility to withdraw this draft law from the agenda as there is a risk that you will violate the constitution. Let's take the time to discuss with the associations of magistrates. It is unimaginable that the justice system is under pressure from the majority for 7 years. We cannot make fun of the financial treatment of judges if we want them to be independent," said Bardhi.
