Expressing opposition to territorial reorganization and the reduction in the number of municipalities, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called for a protest in front of Parliament.
Berisha declared that citizens from all over Albania should join the protest announced for tomorrow's session, describing the merger of 15 municipalities as a decision that, according to him, harms the interests of local communities.
Berisha opposed the way the territorial project was drafted, claiming that the changes are motivated by political and electoral interests. According to him, residents of the municipalities affected by the reform have expressed objections, while the DP proposes an organization with 100 municipalities and further consultations with the communities.
Referring to tomorrow's parliamentary session, Berisha accused the government and the majority of using institutions to serve the political interests of Prime Minister Edi Rama and called on citizens, regardless of political beliefs, to join the protest.
"We gather for tomorrow's session in which Edi Rama, in the most criminal way, executes, for the sake of his chair, 15 municipalities and reduces in this way to 41 municipalities, 41 local government units, throughout the country.
In a more mountainous country, in terms of the surface area covered by mountains, than any other country in Europe. This policy of depopulation in function of his power, entirely in electoral function, without any other criteria, is a very serious act.
An act in fact a declaration of open hostility towards the residents of these municipalities, who have reacted with civility and in general against this project. In addition, the Democratic Party in its project has foreseen 100 municipalities and has left this project open for the basic addition of consultations of other municipalities.
Tomorrow, citizens from all over Albania, regardless of their political beliefs, will unite in a protest to protect civic interests, because the opposition to the annihilation of municipalities has been demonstrated in most cases by citizens of all political beliefs.
This session is very important in which we must prove to the Albanian citizens that this person, who has become the patron of the country, has no other interest in them than the interests of his power, how to guarantee his chair and survival over the monstrous crime.
Edi Rama is doing everything to stay in power at all costs. In this case, I invite citizens from all over Albania to protest for that parliament that does not deserve to exist.
That parliament has become the spokesperson for the most criminal interests of Edi Rama and his criminal organization.
"That parliament has become a shield for the biggest thefts, by Edi Rama, Lubi Balluku and others. That parliament has imposed darkness and obscurity for Albanian citizens, to vote in the name of the strict narrow interests of Edi Rama and the deputies enslaved by him, every law and decision that conflicts with the interests of Albanian citizens," said Berisha.
