A powerful explosion occurred this Friday morning in a two-story building in Plaka, Athens. According to media reports, it is an old building opposite the Columns of Olympian Zeus, while a passerby was slightly injured. Firefighters rescued two women from an adjacent building.
One of them is elderly, while both were transferred to the hospital for medical attention. “We thought a bomb had exploded,” said neighbors, who ran out into the street in terror at the explosion. The cause of the explosion is not yet known, however, initial evidence suggests it was a gas leak.
