After a five-month period, controls have been restored at all border crossing points between Albania and Kosovo as of today. The reinstatement of this procedure, which will be in effect during October, has immediately created queues and columns of vehicles at the Morin border crossing.
For citizens, the reintroduction of controls is considered unnecessary, while a more unified procedure is required throughout the year. To avoid long lines, the Border Police has added counters at the Morini crossing point. According to the agreement between the two countries, the border crossing regime changes depending on the time of year.
The checks apply from March 1 to April 30 and from October 1 to October 31. While from May 1 to September 30 and from November 1 to February 28, the crossing is carried out without checks. The procedure of crossing without checks, according to the agreement, applies only to vehicles with Albanian and Kosovo license plates.
