German police have launched an investigation into two young men who allegedly used a robot to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl on the street, live-streaming the act on social media.
On the night of Saturday against Sunday in Cologne, the robot "touched the young girl in the private parts and made indecent gestures," the city police said in a statement.
Police are investigating the robot's owner, who is 16, and a 19-year-old accomplice for "violation of sexual dignity," a criminal offense punishable by up to 2 years in prison. According to authorities, the youths filmed the scene and posted it online, with comments, on social media platforms.
Police officers called to the scene found the suspects and the robot hidden in the trunk of a car. They seized both the robot and the two young men's cell phones.
