Kosovo defeated Ireland 1-0 tonight in Pristina, at the “Fadil Vokrri” stadium. The match marked the opening match for both teams in Group B3 of the UEFA Nations League. It was a night to forget for Ireland, as a late goal from Vedat Muriqi secured the three points for coach Franko Foda’s team.
The result was the least Kosovo deserved and, in the end, Ireland were lucky not to concede more goals. Leading striker and newly appointed captain, Vedat Muriqi, scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute. The goal was initially delayed due to a VAR review, but was later confirmed and awarded.
Kosovo completely dominated the match with 23 shots, 6 of which were on target, compared to Ireland's 3 shots, 1 of which was on target. Judging by what was seen on the pitch, Ireland were clearly dominated throughout the match, while Kosovo grabbed three important points to kick off their Nations League campaign.
The home fans celebrated loudly on an unforgettable night, while for Ireland now comes the confrontation with Israel and all the noise that will accompany it next Sunday. This was the first confrontation between these two representatives, which went in favor of Kosovo. The next duel "Dardans" will play away against Austria.
