Five marriages, five divorces and four children might be enough. Lothar Matthaus has already decided what the next step in his love life will be at the age of 65: there will be no sixth. After being photographed at Oktoberfest with his new girlfriend, Theresa Sommer, 27, a model and economics graduate, the former midfielder has certainly ruled out the possibility of saying "I do" again.
The 38-year age difference between them has drawn attention, also because Sommer is younger than Matthaus' daughters, Alisa and Viola (born from his first marriage). But this is not the first public appearance of the couple, who since 2025 had occupied the pages of the pink press during a snowy trip to Austria or at official events (the Ballon d'Or ceremony and the Nations League), nor is it the first time that the Munich party has served as a backdrop for their relationship.
In 2007, Matthaus met Liliana, a very young student, there, whom he would marry two years later in Las Vegas. This time, he chose to listen more to the reason: "I remain a man of the heart... although in the past I would have preferred to use my brain a little more."

Lothar Matthaus's marriages have all ended in the same way: with a breakup. The first and also the longest, around 11 years, compared to the others which lasted at least half that time, was with Silvia Matthaus. From their union were born the first two daughters, Alisa (1986) and Viola (1988).
During that period, the former midfielder had a brief fling with an 18-year-old hairdresser from Augsburg: he even arranged an apartment for her in Mönchengladbach before returning to his wife. But the relationship had already soured and everything ended in 1992. She, however, decided to keep her married name. Today she lives in Nuremberg and is a marketing consultant.
In 1994, the former footballer married Lolita Morena, a former Miss Switzerland, model and presenter, with whom he had already had Loris (1992). After the separation, came the marriage to Marijana Kostić, a Serbian entrepreneur and stylist, who was already the mother of three children. Then came marriages to Kristina Liliana Chudinova, 26 years his junior, to whom Matthaus said goodbye after discovering that he had been cheated on, and finally to Anastasia Klimko, who gave birth to Milan.
Polish model Joanna Tuczyńska, Maren Müller-Wohlfahrt (in the late 90s) and Ariadne Ioannou complete the list of loves that have accompanied Matthaus over the years. With them, however, he stopped before going to the altar, finding the right balance between heart and reason. And this is precisely the interesting detail: not only the number of relationships, but the way he thinks today about some decisions made in the past.
Matthaus: "I have always given more than I have received"
Today, Matthaus has become much more cautious in his statements about his private life. "In my marriages and relationships, I have always given more than I have received. With Marijana, I almost went to the point of denying myself: I took care of her children as if they were my own. I even left my job as a coach in Brazil for her."
It is precisely this story that gives his current choice a different meaning than simply “I will not marry again”: he has learned the lesson in order to protect himself more, taking into account the consequences outside his private life. In 2006, Matthaus left Atlético Paranaense after only 8 games, with a team that was still undefeated. “It was the biggest mistake of my coaching career.” And now, after 5 failed attempts, it is better to think carefully before a simple “yes”.
