Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has confirmed that communications have already begun with political parties to find an agreement on the election of the country's new president. Kurti said that the coming days will be crucial for reaching an agreement, while expressing the intention for Kosovo to have a new president within the next week.
“We have started communications and of course this weekend is crucial to have an agreement, so that next week we have a president,” Kurti said. Efforts for an agreement are taking place at a time when the constitutional deadline for electing a president is approaching its end. The Constitutional Court has determined that the procedure must be concluded by October 6, putting the political scene in front of a limited time to find a compromise.
If the Assembly fails to elect a president within this deadline, the country faces another electoral process. In this situation, attention is focused on talks between the Vetëvendosje Movement and opposition parties, as the election of the president requires a certain number of votes that cannot be secured by a majority alone.
