The Israeli army has announced that it has killed a commander of Hamas' elite "Nukba" unit in the Gaza Strip, who, according to it, had participated in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
According to the Israeli military, the commander was part of the forces that infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 attack. In that attack, about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage and sent to Gaza, according to Israeli authorities.
The military claims that the slain commander was preparing for further attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers and was working to restore Hamas' capabilities. Israel has described this activity as a violation of the ceasefire.
A ceasefire between the parties has been in place since October 2025, although Israel has continued to carry out airstrikes in Gaza, claiming that the targets are Hamas members. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that those involved in the October 7 attack will be pursued by Israel.
"There will be no Hamas government in Gaza," Netanyahu declared, adding that those who participated in the attack on Israel and held Israelis hostage will be pursued and captured.
