OpenAI has fired three researchers after an internal investigation found they violated the company's policies on accessing and handling sensitive information. At least two of them worked on research related to artificial intelligence security.
The company has not released the names of those fired. According to reports, the matter also related to work involving an external organization that analyzes artificial intelligence models.
"Our investigation confirmed that these individuals handled sensitive information outside of the company's established procedures, violating our policies and the trust that is fundamental to our work," an OpenAI spokesperson said, according to the BBC.
OpenAI also said it had separated from the three people for violating policies related to the company's access and handling of sensitive information.
The departures come at a time when the safety of artificial intelligence models and agents is at the center of debate in the technology industry, as companies face increasing pressure to strengthen controls and protect data.
OpenAI has not publicly provided full details on the nature of the information improperly handled or the specific role of the external organization involved in the matter.
