A damaged plane, torn tents, destroyed buildings. Iranian attacks have caused extensive damage to American bases in the Middle East, according to photos taken by American soldiers and published by the television network CBS News.
The photos, from one base in Saudi Arabia and two others in Kuwait, were sent to US media by members of the armed forces who asked not to be identified.
"This is serious damage to our bases, which the American public has not been informed about," one of the sources told CBS. "We are standing there, eyes closed, getting punched in the face," he added.
The Pentagon's inspector general explained that the US Central Command (Centcom) had reported significant damage to US facilities. Among other things, it said that the Iranian attacks "damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and infrastructure at US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan."
"Dozens of American aircraft were destroyed or damaged," he added. According to the report, the war in Iran had cost Washington $33.4 billion by the end of June, but this amount does not include "the cost of repairing infrastructure." /LAPSI.al
