A video from a school in the state of Pará has shocked Brazil after it captured the moment a 17-year-old student attacked her teacher with a knife in an empty classroom. The incident took place on September 11 at the “Dr. Gerson dos Santos” public school in the city of Cameta, in northeastern Brazil. The 11th-grade student allegedly attacked math teacher Betânia de Almeida.
In the video, the 17-year-old is seen standing next to her teacher's desk, initially playing nervously with her hair. Seconds later, she pulls out a knife and suddenly moves towards the teacher. De Almeida sensed the attack and managed to dodge the student's first move, before a fierce struggle began in the classroom to remove the knife.
According to the footage, the 17-year-old tries to hit her again, even close to the face, as the teacher desperately tries to defend herself. The teacher eventually manages to leave the classroom, but the student follows her a short distance before the situation is brought under control.

The student was arrested at the scene by police. According to a report from the Pará Police, she said she attacked the teacher because she "didn't like her." The attack occurred shortly after the student's exam was graded. A family member of the teacher told Brazilian media that de Almeida had just finished taking the test when she was attacked.
The teacher was taken to Cameta Regional Hospital, where she received stitches. Doctors determined that the wound did not damage any vital organs and she was released from the hospital.
The 17-year-old, as a minor, is not treated under the same criminal framework as an adult in Brazil. According to lawyer Tess Cruz, who spoke about the case, the act could be classified as a serious criminal offense equivalent to attempted murder and lead to the minor student being sent to a special facility. ©LAPSi.al
