Russia has no intention of stopping the war in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, a day after the idea of a moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure was floated. Speaking to the United Nations Security Council, Lavrov said Moscow would continue what he called a special military operation in Ukraine.
According to foreign media reports, he argued that European countries are demanding a ceasefire with the aim, according to him, of using this period to supply Ukraine with weapons. A day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he was ready to support a moratorium on attacks on energy facilities if Russia took the same step.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said that an agreement between Russia and Ukraine could be reached sooner than expected. However, Lavrov's statements indicate that Moscow is not currently signaling a general halt to military operations.
