Russia's largest refinery in Moscow, owned by Gazprom Neft, has stopped processing crude oil after fires broke out in its main crude distillation units following a Ukrainian drone attack on Sunday, three industry sources told Reuters.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote in a Telegram post on Sunday morning that an industrial unit at the refinery had been damaged in a drone attack.
The sources told Reuters that the two main crude oil distillation units were engulfed in flames after the drones crashed inside the facility. They added that it would take several weeks to repair the damage and restore them to normal operation.
Our long-range responses had a very significant impact in the Moscow region last night. One of Russia's key oil industry facilities and the aggressor's logistics facility were hit. Gazprom Neft did not comment on the matter, despite a request from Reuters.
The refinery's AVT-6 unit has a production capacity of 21,400 metric tons per day, corresponding to 54% of the total capacity, while the EURO+ blended crude oil processing unit has a production capacity of 18,800 tons per day, covering the rest.
It is noteworthy that fuels produced by the Moscow refinery have not been available for sale on the St. Petersburg International Trade Exchange since September 21.
In 2024, the refinery processed 11.6 million tons of crude oil, or about 230,000 barrels per day, and produced 2.9 million tons of gasoline, 3.2 million tons of diesel, and 1.3 million tons of tar.
Trump: They have lost control
Meanwhile, Donald Trump said Russia has "lost control" of its oil industry and repeated his call to end Russia's war with Ukraine.

"Russia has unfortunately lost control of its oil industry due to the war with Ukraine. A large number of their oil refineries have been blown up and, at least temporarily, are out of service," the US president said in a post on social media, a day before meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"This ridiculous and endless war with Ukraine must end," he concluded.
At the same time, Russia, through the Ministry of Defense, emphasized that "in response to the Kiev regime's attacks on political targets on Russian territory, the Russian armed forces will continue and intensify their bombing using high-precision weapons against military targets in Kiev." ©LAPSI.al
