Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Vladimir Putin of being the main obstacle to ending the war in Ukraine. During his speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Zelensky said that the more room for maneuver the Russian president is given, the greater the danger to other countries.
Foreign media reports that Zelensky spoke about the losses of the Russian army on the battlefield and stated that, from January to August, they amounted to about 248 thousand people, according to the data presented by him. He said that Russia has paid a high human cost in exchange for relatively limited territorial advances this year.
The Ukrainian president also criticized military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, saying Pyongyang has sent troops to help Russian forces. According to him, these forces have also suffered losses during the fighting. In his speech, Zelensky also accused Russia of posing a threat to other countries in the region, mentioning Moldova, Poland and the Baltic states, as well as the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
Referring to Moscow's recent statements about the war, the Ukrainian president said that Putin continues to aim to occupy other Ukrainian territories. Zelensky called for limiting Russia and its leadership's ability to expand the war, presenting this as one of the conditions for increasing security in Europe and beyond.
