
The Ministry of Health has provided information regarding the West Nile Fever infection situation in Albania.
According to the ministry, during the second ten days of August, the first case for 2026 was identified, in the Korça region.
It is further reported that since the beginning of January 2026, 30 samples of suspected cases of WNV infection have been tested, which have resulted negative.

During the systematic and intensive monitoring of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection in the country, only during the second ten days of August was the first case of 2026 identified, in the Korça district.
Since the beginning of January 2026, 30 samples of suspected cases of WNV infection have been tested, which have all resulted negative. The identified case constitutes the first confirmed case in Albania for 2026.
The IHP is continuing epidemiological surveillance in humans, epidemiological and entomological investigation of the confirmed case, and monitoring the situation.
In Albania, WNV infection has been documented before. In 2024, 107 confirmed cases and 50 probable cases were reported, while in 2025, 2 confirmed cases were reported.
