After the meeting with ministers in Pogradec, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared in a 'live' link on Facebook that the protests that have been going on for 86 days have really challenged his government. "I understand very well that what has happened during this period has eroded part of a river of this governance and the relationship of the citizen with the state, with the government," said Rama, while emphasizing that "the governance will improve and must improve, because otherwise there is no reason to continue." According to the Prime Minister, the protest has been a "gift" and a real challenge for the socialist majority.
"It was truly a gift what happened, to gain what we have been missing for a long time, because we have not had an opposition to really challenge us and this protest has really challenged us," he said. The Prime Minister further stated that Albania, according to him, has never been better, more appreciated and that it has not been a country for sale.
Edi Rama: I understand very well that what has happened during this period has eroded part of the fabric of this governance and the relationship between the citizen and the state, with the government, but I am convinced that, as I said at the beginning, those who will emerge stronger from this vortex will be the citizens.
The governance will improve and must improve, because in the face of it there is no reason to continue. What has happened has truly been a gift, to gain what we have lacked for a long time, because we have not had an opposition to really challenge us and this protest has really challenged us.
Not what continues, because what is, I have no interest in talking about. It is a conglomerate that has every right to continue to exist and, as long as it has, all the fuel to exist. What has been done is not enough for us.
I just want you all to remember one thing. Albania has never been better, it has never been more valued, supported by real opportunities to do more, and there is a fundamental reason for this, because Albania has no longer been a country for sale, because there is no country for sale and for sale that is supported, that increases opportunities for its people and that grows every day. We have made all the efforts and we will continue to make them.
