A British-Iranian citizen has been arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts in connection with the incident at RAF Fairford air base, British counter-terrorism authorities have announced.
The 27-year-old was arrested in Westminster, London. A second man, a 26-year-old British citizen, was also questioned under official warning, while two properties in the area were searched, the BBC reports.
Counter-terrorism police are looking at "all options - including the involvement of a foreign state", said Vicki Evans, the force's senior national coordinator.
"The investigation into the circumstances of the events in Gloucestershire is extremely complex and our specialist teams are examining a large number of leads," she said.
On September 27, five young men, all British, in their 20s, were arrested initially on suspicion of explosives offences and then of terrorist offences. However, they were released on bail on Monday. Police described this as an “investigative decision”, based on experience and investigation strategy.
Fairford Air Base is owned by the British Royal Air Force, but is also used by the US military. The British government has authorized the United States to use the base to attack Iranian missile positions that are targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
