Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that it is impossible to be sure that weapons of mass destruction will never be used, stressing the need to prevent such a scenario.
Speaking at the Valdai Club forum of international experts on Russia in Moscow, Putin said: “Can we be sure that this weapon will never be used? Of course not. We must remember this and avoid it.”
At the same time, the Russian president said that international conflicts are likely to continue as the world changes, but the situation, according to him, will improve with the decline of Western hegemony.
"Catastrophic scenarios must be avoided," Putin said.
“Regardless of which scenario develops globally in the coming years, the continuation of international conflicts is, unfortunately, extremely likely. This is partly due to the fact that ongoing fundamental changes – and the opportunities they offer – fuel ambition and a willingness to take risks for the sake of a seemingly large gain,” he said.
