The new United States Ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, officially begins his duties as US Ambassador to Albania today.
Today, Wendt will present his credentials to President Bajram Begaj. The ceremony is expected to take place at 11:00.
After the ceremony, Wendt will hold his first meeting with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha.
In the coming days, the new American ambassador is expected to be introduced to representatives of Albanian politics and media, at a ceremony that the US Embassy will organize on Friday, October 2.
About two months ago, after his confirmation as ambassador, the US embassy stated that Wendt would support President Trump's vision for shared security, a stronger NATO, and fair deals for American businesses.
The American diplomat comes from a long military career, with more than three decades of service in the US Army.
He has been part of the "Green Beret" special forces, while also leading NATO's Special Operations Command, holding key roles in some of the most important missions of the alliance and the US military.
