Former NATO Supreme General Wesley Clark, in an interview with Klan News, spoke more about what happened during the war in Kosovo.
Clark said that Milosevic had a genocidal mind. He praised the figure of Hashim Thaçi, saying that the former president of Kosovo was a patriot who returned to his homeland to protect it.
“During the war, we asked Milosevic to withdraw the troops and gave him a document that proved this. He told me that Albanians are murderers, rapists. He told me that we have dealt with Albanians before and that we have the solution and we will “kill them all”. Milosevic signed the document, but in January he sent forces back to Kosovo and resumed ethnic cleansing. Milosevic can never be compared to Hashim Thaci. Thaci was a patriot who returned to his country in times of crisis.
"Milosevic was stubborn, he was sure that he would put an end to the KLA and the people of Kosovo. Serbia had arrested and killed intellectuals and told people to give us their wealth and young women, or we will kill you. Milosevic knew what was happening on the ground. When we saw that the situation was getting serious, we intervened and bombed Serbia," Clark said.
Asked whether the intervention in Kosovo was done to divert attention from the scandal, which allegedly involved former US President Bill Clinton, Clark underlined that this is not true at all.
He explained that at that time, there was a genocide in Rwanda and that the US could not allow something like that to happen in Kosovo.
"It's a ridiculous statement, that the intervention in Kosovo was made to divert attention from the Bill Clinton scandal. At that time, there was ethnic cleansing in Rwanda. Somewhere around 800 thousand people were massacred in that African country. We saw genocide there and said that the massacre could not be repeated. In 1995 we saw the Serbian ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and NATO decided to intervene in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.
There we negotiated the end of Milosevic and he sat down at the table, because he knew that he had NATO in front of him. There Bosnia was divided, 51 percent to 49 percent. This was the agreement then, which has been criticized by Bosniaks. The result was not good, but the war ended. In 1998 the Jashari family was eliminated and a great massacre took place. The Macedonian president said that there would be a war there, when he said that the Albanians would take up arms. Milosevic was determined to eliminate all the rights of the Albanians, maybe he wanted to settle Serbs in Kosovo, his plans, we do not know what he had in mind. This hatred between Albanians and Serbs still continues to a certain extent. We did what we could. Let's start building a better relationship in the region", declared Clark.
